Join/Transfer Quick Information
Pack 936 is always open to new members and this document serves as the quick reference resource for families interested in joining Cub Scouts and for existing Cub Scouts looking to transfer into our Pack. Our Pack is in the Greater St. Louis Area Council (GSLAC), Boone Trails District, and officially listed as Pack 3936. Throughout your family’s Scouting career you’ll be asked many times for your Council and District. For a more detailed overview of Cub Scouts please refer to the Pack 936 Parent Handbook.
All children that wish to join Pack 936 or any other Pack in Cub Scouts must fill out an application and pay the yearly Pack and Council dues. If your child is transferring from another Pack or Council and has already paid their dues no payment is necessary but the application is still required. There is a section specific for transferring Scouts in the application.
Online applications can be found at myscouting.org or you can request a paper application directly from Pack 936.
New to Scouting:
The ranks of Cub Scouts start at Lion. All ranks are based upon the Scout’s grade level. Your child can start as a Cub Scout as early as Kindergarten and as late as 5th Grade. If your child is showing interest at a later grade level they simply join at that rank with no need to earn earlier ranks. Once you fill out the application and pay your dues you will be contacted by the appropriate Den Leader who should provide information about Den meetings and scoutbook.scouting.org.
Parents are encouraged to volunteer. We always need more volunteers! Parents with interest in taking on adult leadership roles must also fill out an Adult Application.
You will find that Packs charge different amounts for dues. This is normal and based upon many factors such as fund raising, activities, benefactors, etc.. If you’re interested in the fiscal responsibility of Pack 936 the budget is available.
Transferring Scouts:
Transfering from another Pack within the Greater St. Louis Area Council:
An application is required and there is no transfer fee. Pack 936 utilizes scoutbook.scouting.org for record keeping. If your previous Pack utilized scoutbook.scouting.org your records and info should transfer over to Pack 936 once GSLAC processes the transfer application. If your previous Pack did not use scoutbook.com for record keeping please reference the first paragraph in the next section.
Transfering from another Pack outside of the Greater St. Louis Area Council:
An application is required and there is no transfer fee. Pack 936 utilizes scoutbook.scouting.org for record keeping.
If your previous Pack did not use scoutbook.com you will need to register on scoutbook.scouting.org (it’s free) and then manually enter your Scout’s records into the website. This is the responsibility of the parent and will help familiarize you with the site. Once you have entered your Scout’s records please notify your Den Leader what items have been awarded. Pack 936 purchases all award and rank uniform pieces for the Scouts. Indicating to your Den Leader the items your Scout already possesses will save the Pack from purchasing these items in error.
If your previous Pack did use scoutbook.com do NOTHING until you receive an invite from your new Den Leader. When GSLAC receives your transfer application they will assign a new membership number and start the process of merging the scoutbook.scouting.org accounts. This is completed on the Council level and the Pack has no control over the merging of accounts. Once the accounts are merged your Scout should show up on scoutbook.scouting.org Pack 936 membership list. If for some reason your Scout’s account shows up in scoutbook.com blank or as a duplicate have someone in Pack 936 leadership contact the GSLAC Membership Registrar. They will need your Scout’s previous Council name and membership number.
